About Us

More than language lessons.

At jamesalbert, we believe that learning a language is about far more than memorising vocabulary or passing an examination. Language is how people connect, understand one another and participate more confidently in the world around them.

Our Focus

Based in San Michele al Tagliamento and working across Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia, jamesalbert supports children, teenagers, adults, schools and businesses. From a child’s first English words to professional communication in an international workplace, our aim remains the same: to help each learner use language naturally, confidently and with purpose.

We are deliberately not a one-size-fits-all language school. Our programmes are shaped around the people in front of us — their age, personality, objectives, existing ability and the situations in which they actually need to communicate. That approach has grown into the principle at the heart of our institute: Learn Naturally, Speak Naturally.

Our Story

Grown From The Classroom

jamesalbert grew from years of teaching, working with families and schools, and seeing first-hand that the most successful language learning often happens when students feel comfortable enough to participate, make mistakes and try again. What began as a highly personal approach to English teaching has developed into a wider language and cultural institute serving learners of different ages and backgrounds.

Today, our work extends from individual and small-group lessons to school programmes and corporate language training. As we grow, we want to preserve what made the institute work in the first place: familiarity, consistency, high standards and the sense that every student is known as an individual rather than simply occupying a place in a class.

Our Approach

Understanding The Learner First

Good teaching begins with understanding the learner. Before deciding what or how to teach, we consider where the student is now, what they hope to achieve and what may be preventing them from progressing. For some, the goal is fluency and professional confidence; for others it may be school support, travel, conversation or simply the pleasure of learning something new.

We favour active, communicative lessons supported by clear structure. Grammar and accuracy matter, but they are taught as tools for communication rather than as ends in themselves. Conversation, listening, reading, practical vocabulary, cultural context and confidence-building all form part of the learning process.

Progress is observed continuously. Teachers adapt lessons as students develop, provide feedback and, where appropriate, communicate with parents, schools or corporate contacts so that learning objectives remain realistic and useful. Our purpose is not to make students dependent on lessons indefinitely, but to help them become increasingly capable, curious and independent users of language.

What Guides Us

Our Principles

01

The student comes first.

Programmes should respond to genuine learning needs, not simply fill a timetable.

02

Confidence and accuracy belong together.

Students need the freedom to speak and experiment, alongside the guidance required to improve.

03

Learning should feel human.

Patience, humour, trust and encouragement create the conditions in which meaningful progress can happen.

04

Language and culture are inseparable.

We teach students not only how to form sentences, but how language is actually used by people in real contexts.

05

Teaching should be transparent.

Learners — and, where appropriate, parents, schools and companies — should understand the objectives of the programme and the progress being made.

06

A good teacher builds independence.

The ultimate success of teaching is a learner who becomes increasingly confident without constant support.

Our Teachers

Selected For More Than Knowledge

Our teachers are selected not only for their knowledge of language, but for their ability to communicate, encourage and adapt. A strong teacher must understand that a four-year-old meeting English for the first time, a teenager preparing for school, an adult returning to study and a manager communicating across borders all require very different kinds of support.

We encourage teachers to bring their own experience and personality into the classroom while working within the standards and educational philosophy of jamesalbert. The result is a team that is professional without being distant, structured without being rigid, and committed to making students feel that progress is achievable.

Who We Work With

Schools, Families & Business

Schools

We complement the work already taking place in the classroom, creating additional opportunities for students to hear and use authentic, practical English.

Families

We offer continuity and a personal relationship with the institute — the same familiar faces, term after term.

Business

We focus on language that is relevant to real working situations — meetings, presentations, correspondence, negotiation and everyday professional communication.

Community

A Local Institute, An International Outlook

jamesalbert is a local institute with an international outlook. We believe access to language can widen horizons, strengthen confidence and create opportunities that extend well beyond the classroom. As the institute develops, we want community initiatives and educational partnerships to remain part of our identity, particularly where our teaching can make a meaningful difference to young people and families.

Growth matters to us, but not at the expense of purpose. We would rather build carefully, maintain the quality of our relationships and contribute something useful to the communities in which we work.

James Maposa

Founder & Managing Director, jamesalbert

James Maposa is the Founder and Managing Director of jamesalbert. Raised in a close-knit multicultural family, with a Zimbabwean father and a British mother from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, he grew up between different cultural influences. That background gave him an early appreciation of the way language, culture and communication shape how people understand one another.

His professional background began outside the classroom. After Hotel School, James completed an HND in Marketing Management and later earned an MBA from Nottingham Trent University. Over more than two decades in management, hospitality, tourism, sales and international business, he worked with organisations including Crowne Plaza, African Sun Hotels, Spier Wine Estate and the Akeibo Travel Group in Africa.

Those years in service and international business strongly influenced the philosophy behind jamesalbert. They reinforced his belief that communication is not merely technical: it depends on confidence, cultural awareness, empathy and the ability to understand the person on the other side of the conversation.

After moving into education, James developed more than five years of experience teaching English across schools in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto, alongside private and corporate learners. Working with students from early childhood through adulthood gradually shaped the natural, relationship-led teaching approach that became the foundation of jamesalbert.

As Managing Director, James oversees the institute’s educational direction, partnerships and long-term development. He remains actively involved in teaching because the classroom continues to inform how the organisation grows: what students need, what teachers need in order to support them well, and how a language institute can remain personal even as it becomes more established.

“Our ambition is not simply to teach languages. It is to create the kind of place where people become comfortable using them — where learning feels natural, culture is part of the conversation, and students leave us more confident than when they arrived.”
What We Are Building

jamesalbert is continuing to develop from an English language institute into a broader language and cultural organisation. English remains at the heart of our work, while our growing programmes in other languages allow us to serve a wider community of learners and create a genuinely international learning environment. The future of jamesalbert will be built on the same foundations as its beginning: good teachers, thoughtful programmes, strong relationships and a belief that education works best when people feel seen, supported and inspired to participate.
